The Proficiency in Security Awareness course (PSA) is a mandatory STCW requirement. As the maritime landscape changes, professional crew have to ensure they meet all international requirements and keep qualifications up to date. Safety is the number one priority onboard any vessel and crew need to be prepared for any and all eventualities.
What Is It?
This 1 day course is for those NEW / EXISTING crew whom do not have a designated security duty and who’s vessel has asked them to complete the Proficiency in Security Awareness (PSA) course instead of the Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) course. It must be stated, however, that ALL new crew should complete the Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) course, due to it’s higher and more practical function.
Why Do I Need It?
Proficiency in Security Awareness (PSA) training is now widely used for Cruise Ship crew rather than Superyacht crew. If it has not been specified, it is highly advisable to complete the higher qualification known as Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD). This course is mandatory for all crew whom work on-board ISPS compliant vessels, which includes Superyachts of 500gt and over AND/OR those which carry 12 fare-paying passengers/guests.
Sidenote: The Proficiency in Security Awareness (PSA) course is also referred to as “Competence in Security Awareness”, however, it is one and the same course.
The course includes:
- The ISPS Code
- Introduction to Maritime security
- Key Threats
- Plans, Policies & Procedures
- Communication & Reporting
