Target group
Officers charged with the security organization on board a seagoing ship larger than 500 GT, as specified in the ISPS and Solas XI-2.
The ship operator determines who is charged with this task; in many cases, it will be the captain or the chief officer.
The course is suitable for officers of every type of ship, including tankers, passenger ships, RORO ferries, dredgers and other work ships.
Prior education
Watch Officer (Marine Officer, Chief Officer) on ships > 500 GT/750 kW.
Good command of the English language.
Participants must be 18 years old or over, have least 12 months of sea time or demonstrable knowledge of ship operations.
Contents of the course
The course meets the requirements laid down in the STCW code, section A-VI/5.
Subjects:
- ISPS regulations.
- Implementation of a ship security plan.
- Awareness of security and watchfulness.
- Security organization and company policy.
- Access to the ship and emergency exits.
- Communication between the ship and the shore/the harbour facilities/D.o.S.
- Security systems.
- Security surveys.
- Risk assessment.
- Contingency planning.
- On-board training and exercises.
The course can be given in English.
Duration
2 consecutive days.
Lesson times: 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
Certification
If participants pass the final exam, they are awarded an official (ILenT/Scheepvaart approved) STCW'78, as amended, certificate and the seaman's book is stamped. STC B.V. is recognized by the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport) under the institute code NL007.
Remarks
To be sent in advance: a copy of the participant's personal information from the municipal personal records database or an enlarged copy of their passport and proof of previous training and sea time. Only a certificate of participation is awarded if participants cannot prove they meet the prior education and sea service requirements.
It is important that we receive the required documents in time, otherwise it will not be possible for us to issue a certificate.
