Course description
This course will provide you with existing international ship recycling regulations as well as guidelines related to the creation and management of the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM).

Course objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- understand the regulatory framework for ship recycling, such as the EU Ship Recycling Regulation, the Hong Kong Convention, the Basel Convention, and the IMO guidelines
- develop and maintain the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) Part I, which is a document that lists all the hazardous materials present on board a ship, such as asbestos, lead, mercury, PCBs, etc.
- follow the procedures and documentation for IHM Part I, such as the sampling plan, the visual inspection, the sampling and analysis, the verification and certification, and the updating process
- apply the practical examples and case studies of IHM Part I, such as how to identify and quantify hazardous materials on different types of ships, how to deal with common issues and challenges, and how to use best practices and tools
