Overview
Our Yachtmaster Power Prep Course is a one-week practical course to consolidate what you have learnt in preparation for the practical assessment.
Gaining the RYA Yachtmaster provides acknowledgment from the RYA examiner that the skipper has reached the highest level of competence. A reassurance that you can make the right and safe decisions when taking a motorboat to sea.
What is a Yachtmaster certificate of competence?
The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Power certificate of competence allows the holder to skipper of a Motor Yacht, up to 24 meters in length, 150 miles from a safe haven. Add STCW Basic Safety Training and you have a qualification to skipper Motor boats up to 200GT, which may be more than 24 meters in length.
There are two routes through to the RYA Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence.
RYA Yachtmaster Offshore
Yachtmaster Offshore is the most popular route. Superyacht crew who are looking to progress to lead deckhand or Bosun are usually required to hold Yachtmaster Offshore. The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore is a prerequisite for the Efficient Deckhand course and a requirement for Officer of the Watch.
The Sea time requirements for the Yachtmaster offshore can be found in the prerequisites section below. For a more comprehensive look at what certificates, sea time and skippered passages are required then take at our website. If you have any questions then feel free to contact us.
RYA Yachtmaster Coastal
Not all candidates have the sea time or command experience for the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. Candidates with 800 miles logged choose the Yachtmaster Coastal certificate. Furthermore, some skippers have no intention of going offshore and want to stick to coastal waters.
If you own your own Motorboat and are looking for a qualification that provides confidence then we recommend the Yachtmaster Coastal route.
RYA Yachtmaster Theory
To pass the practical exam candidates are required to have an excellent knowledge of Navigation. If you have not completed the RYA Yachtmaster theory course then we recommend you consider joining our two-week theory and practical course.
